Introduction

Pishin was formed as an administrative district in 1975 by combining Pishin and Chaman tehsils of the then Quetta/Pishin districts. In 1994, it was further bifurcated to form Killa Abdullah district. The present Pishin district is, therefore, left with only old Pishin tehsil and Barshore and Karezat sub-tehsils. Pishin is the modernized word of the word Pushang, which is an old Persian for the Arabic word of Fushang. The district derives its name from its headquarters town.
