Introduction
Mansehra district is located astride the
Karakoram highway. There are three tehsils in the districts, namely,
Mansehra (35 UCs), Oghi (11 UCs) and Balakot (12 UCs). The district has a
rich natural resource base, and tourism in the summer months to Kaghan
valley is a source of income for the people of Balakot tehsil. Of the
three tehsils, Oghi is the most backward and remotest. The significance of
the district lies in its natural beauty, which is highlighted by lofty
pine covered mountains, beautiful valleys and pristine lakes. The majority
of residents eke out a living through subsistence land farming and
livestock rearing.
