Multan :

Introduction

The origin of the name Multan is obscure. Hiuen Tasng who visited it in641 A.d calls it Mu-lo-san Pu-lu. Alberuni quoting a kashmiri author calls it a Multana. Acording to another source the early name was Multarang or Multaran. In the time of Narsing Bhagwan its name was Kashep Puri. In the time of Bhagwan Krishan the town acquired the name of Mitron and later on ca;;ed as a Multan.

Location

District Multan lies between 290 -22' and 300- 24' north latitudes and between 71-03' to 720 -28' east longitudes.

Boundary

It lies in bleand made by five conflent rivers. it is bounded on the east by Lodhran and Khanewal Districts, on the north by Khanewal districts, on South by Bhawalapur district dividing the two districts by Sutlej river and on the west by Chenab across which Muzaffargarh district is situated.

Area

The total area of district Multan is 3,720 square kilometers.
